Oil Diffusers
Oil diffusers are capable of creating a powerful scent quickly. They work by burning a candle underneath a tray filled with scented oils, which then causes the oil to evaporate and diffuse the scent. They’re convenient in that you can mix whatever oils you like, and you can change them up frequently using the same device. The downside is that the candle aspect can be potentially hazardous and messy. Moreover, they cannot be left to run unsupervised and therefore need to be extinguished and relit regularly.
Reed Diffusers
Reed diffusers work more slowly but are capable of diffusing aromas much more evenly and gently. The operating principle of reed diffusers is that the wooden reed is placed into a jar of scented oils, which are then absorbed into the wood and diffused gently into the air. They’re safe and clean and can therefore be placed virtually anywhere and left to operate until the oil runs dry. The trouble with reed diffusers is that they produce a more mild result. Electronic Diffusers
These operate by the same principle as oil diffusers, except instead of a flame to generate heat, it uses electricity to cause scented oils to diffuse into the air. The result is a much safer device that achieves the same effect ‒ a strong and quick diffusion of aromas. The downside with electronic diffusers is that they can easily be forgotten about and left to burn dry, which can run up the electricity bill and be potentially hazardous. It could also damage the device. However, if well managed, these are an excellent option.
Candles
There are a million different kinds of scented candles for you to choose from. Aside from the sheer variety, the added aesthetic aspect of a burning candle is immediately attractive. The warm glow and the delicious scents these give off make for a wonderful combination. The downside is that candles present an inherent safety concern owing to their open flames. This means they need to be placed in safe and secure spots only, thereby making them less mobile. Moreover, candlewax can get messy if you’re not careful.
Sprays
Sprays can be operated either manually via a spray bottle or aerosol or attached to automatic spray machines. Automated spray diffusion machines operate on a timer and will spray automatically every few minutes. Sprays can instantly create a strong aroma in a room, but the downside is that the strength of the smell dissipates rather quickly, so frequent and repeated spraying might be needed. Moreover, sprays can sometimes leave residue on furniture and other surfaces if used frequently.
