If you want to roll out a scent marketing strategy at your business, then it is critical to be made aware of the various scent delivery systems available to you. These diffusion systems vary depending on the application and the desired effect. Different scent delivery systems can be used in concert with one another throughout your premises to achieve the desired end result.
Some businesses might have various areas they would like to scent, with different aromas achieving different effects in each area. An example of this might be the men’s versus the women’s sections of a department clothing store. Or perhaps you want to scent your bathrooms in a way that is different from how the rest of the business is scented.
With this in mind, we should consider different scent delivery systems and where they’re best used.
Company Wide
If you want to create a persuasive aroma throughout the building while keeping your delivery system unseen, you could use your HVAC system. Many buildings have HVAC systems already installed. Therefore, it would only take a minor upgrade to allow the air conditioning ducts to carry your signature aroma throughout the building.
The benefit here is that it is out of sight and thus more subconscious while also being pervasive throughout the business. Such a system will result in a more evenly distributed aroma and will be less likely to result in hot or cold spots.
Divisional
Unless you have a setup whereby different rooms or departments operate on independent HVAC circuits, the air conditioning system is unlikely to be as effective at creating different and unique scent experiences in different areas.
To achieve this effect, standalone scent delivery systems should be considered. Smaller, battery-operated electronic devices can operate as isolated scent diffusers that deliver bespoke aromas for each specific area of the business.
The benefit of such devices is that they require very little maintenance or management, as these devices operate automatically. These can also be placed out of sight to enhance the subconscious effect of your scent marketing approach.
Intimate Spaces
For more intimate spaces, such as restaurants, show houses or small retail stores, other diffusion options could be considered, such as reed diffusers or oil burners. These scent delivery systems are both low-cost and fun to experiment with. They create a strong aroma ‒ particularly the oil burner ‒ while also making a space feel cosier.
Reed diffusers require nearly no maintenance, emitting their aroma permanently, although they are not as strong as burners. However, they make for aesthetically pleasing decor.
